About the Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS)

Hours of Operation

The Akron Bar STRONGLY ENCOURAGES you use our 24-7 Online Referral Portal if you need a lawyer - especially if you have an IMMEDIATE need for an attorney. The Online Referral Portal uses the same process that our Intake Specialists use to refer a lawyer. Complete the required information and you will receive a referral if an attorney is available in the area of law for which you need assistance.

Referrals via the LRIS Online Portal are available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

Referrals via our Intake Specialists are available by leaving a voice mail message at 330.253.5038. Wait times for a return call may take up to a week depending upon our call volume. Please use the Online Referral Portal for immediate legal needs.

Affordable Fee 

For a non-refundable fee^# of $30*, you will receive up to a 30-minute consultation with a LRIS lawyer. During the consultation if you elect to retain the LRIS lawyer, please inquiry about their fees, etc.

LRIS does not refer 'pro bono' cases or offer free legal advice. See below for additional details.

Please Note: 

#The consultation may result in the attorney determining that the case, as presented, does not meet the criteria to move forward with legal action. If this occurs, the client is not eligible for a refund, because the client received the consultation for which they have paid. Sometimes attorneys have to be the bearer of bad news.

*The Akron Bar waives the $30 fee if your legal matter is concerning Disability Benefits, Personal Injuries, Bankruptcy, or Veteran’s Benefits.

Need assistance with a simple legal question, but do not need to hire a lawyer? Our LRIS lawyers can help answer your legal questions!​ To participate in the LRIS Ask An Attorney service, please call 330.253.5038 on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, from 9 – 11 am EST.

Please Note: Depending on the call volume or the expertise of our volunteers, we may transfer your call to the University of Akron School of Law's Legal Clinic. In these situations, Law School students working with licensed lawyers will answer your questions.
