Member Testimonials

"The Akron Bar Association LRIS offers both our emerging and seasoned members the opportunity to build their practice and serve the community by providing referrals to clients in their specific practice areas. We have just released a video promoting the LRIS and continue to aggressively market the service to the greater Akron community. There has been a significant increase in referrals over previous years. All these factors make this is an exciting time to join the LRIS and benefit from our efforts!"

William G. Chris, Esq.
Akron Bar President 2018 - 2019

"I have been active in the Akron Bar referral program for a number of years. I have found it very beneficial to my firm’s success. It provides exposure to a wide variety of clients. Even though we do not accept every matter that we review, we have formed a number of ongoing relationships through this service, and more importantly, we have been able to provide assistance and legal guidance to others that may not otherwise be able to afford the services of an attorney."

Ronald K. Starkey, Esq.

"The LRIS complements my practice very well. It provides me both the opportunity to serve members of the community with my unique legal skills and to build my practice by engaging new clients.  LRIS referrals have generated income and visibility for my practice."

Michael B. Washington, Esq.

The Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) of the Akron Bar Association offers referrals in Summit, Medina, Portage, and Wayne counties. The LRIS service is approved by the American Bar Association and exceeds the Ohio Supreme Court's standards. Membership in our service is an opportunity for you to enhance your client base and bolster your profitability while providing legal services to the public.

How Does it Work?

The LRIS service begins by collecting the client’s name, address and phone number as well as a brief description of the legal situation, in addition to a $30 fee (waived for tort/negligence, Social Security, unemployment, Workers’ Compensation, malpractice and wrongful death cases). After making the referral, the client is eligible to receive a 30-minute consultation with the referred panel attorney, either in person or over the phone. If the attorney is retained, the initial $200 in attorney fees received is kept by the attorney. The Akron Bar receives 15% of any fees received after the initial $200.
