In 1996, the Board of Trustees of the Akron Bar Association established the Professionalism Award. In 2018, the name of the award was changed from the "Professionalism Award" to the "Bradford M. Buck Gearinger Professionalism Award" in memory of Attorney Gearinger, Akron Bar past president, and past award recipient. This Award was created to recognize an attorney's exceptional dedication to the standards of the profession and to recognize one who has demonstrated integrity and humanitarian concern within the community.

This Award recognizes a practitioner of the law based upon the following criteria:
A nominee should be any Akron Bar Association member who is either 60+ years of age or in practice 30+ years;
Years of service to the Association’s committees or sections;
Work accomplished by the nominee for the Summit County legal community or wider community;
Work carried out by the nominee in civic, charitable, or philanthropic activities;
And Activities carried out by the nominee in support of their legal alma mater.
