Summit County, Ohio - The Summit County Court of Common Pleas Court is pleased to announce awards of $550,000 and $625,000 in grant funding to the Turning Point and Valor Court Programs from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs (OJP). Judges Joy Malek Oldfield and Amy Corrigall Jones sought these grants to assist initiatives in their programming.
Turning Point’s grant will allow the Court to diversify the program’s participant pool amongst racial and ethnic demographics, in alignment with National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP) standards. It will also assist in long-term sobriety for participants by supporting stability and abstinence through subsidies for sober support housing. Oldfield intends to hire a Screening and Outreach Coordinator. This individual will work with a contracted professional to conduct a diversity audit and implement recommendations towards this goal. The team will assess current screening protocols, clinical tools and staff training, as well as educate the offender and attorney population on the benefits of participation in Turning Point. Oldfield says she wants to “improve access and remove barriers so that all individuals have equal access to treatment within the program.” The position is posted.
Valor Court’s grant focus is on the family dynamic and will strengthen family relationships for her participants by providing therapy, counseling, housing and grief recovery. “We will enhance services provided to veterans and their families through this additional funding,” said Corrigall Jones. Corrigall Jones will add a Clinical Coordinator to provide evidence-based treatment for veterans and families in family psychoeducation, family support groups, relationship counseling, relationship trauma, and family crisis.
