Summit County, Ohio - Summit County Probate Court presents art from Community Support Service (CSS) highlighting works from their Expressive Arts Therapy Program at the Summit County Courthouse from Jan. 30, 2022, thru Feb. 25, 2022, as part of the Curated Courthouse. Community Support Services provides healthcare and hope for adults living with severe and persistent mental illnesses in Summit County. Curated Courthouse provides respite and representation throughout the courthouse bringing awareness of both local professional and community artists to the public eye.
“Many clients of CSS use the Expressive Arts Therapy program to express ideas that might be difficult to put into words,” shared Michael Gaffney, Director of Marketing & Development for Community Support Services. “Utilizing the creative process and the resulting artwork, therapists help clients explore feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem.”
Funding for Curated Courthouse is provided through the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Knight Arts Challenge with matching funds from other local foundations: The Akron Community Foundation, The Richard S and Alita Rogers Family Foundation, Peg’s Foundation, Mary and Dr. George L. Demetros, Laura R. & Lucian Q. Moffitt Foundation, Charles E. & Mabel M. Ritchie Memorial Foundation, Lloyd L. & Louise K. Smith Foundation.
The Summit County Court House is open to the public from 8 am to 4 pm EST Mon. through Fri. at 209 South High Street, Akron, Ohio 44308. The Atrium is located on the first floor of the Summit County Court House outside of the Probate Court. Current COVID-19 protocol requires masks in all Summit County buildings for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.
