Summit County, Ohio – Administrative Judge Alison McCarty of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas General Division announced that the Court, in partnership with Art x Love and America 250-Ohio Commission, will unveil the Court’s Discovering Justice Mural on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.

The mural was designed by Art x Love for installation in the Court’s jury room. Inspiration for the artwork was sourced from submissions received from the community during the Court’s campaign to educate Ohioans about the American Justice System and the significance of the Juror’s Oath in safeguarding American freedom and justice. The campaign is a lead up to America’s simiquincentennial, where personnel from Art x Love and the Court held educational workshops throughout the state to engage high school students and other Ohioans in creative exercises that fostered a deeper understanding of the court’s function and responsibilities. The program aimed to bring diverse communities together to cultivate new relationships and instill civic pride through the rich history of America’s justice system.

"We distributed thousands of Discovering Justice activity books across the state and met with hundreds of Ohioans of all ages and perspectives to understand their vision of justice. For many, this was an eye-opening and educational opportunity to share their feelings and aspirations in celebration of America's simiquincentennial. The Discovering Justice Mural reflects Ohioan's pride, passion, and values to guide and inform America's judicial system – it is designed to inspire respect for the breadth of human experience and our civic duty." Mac Love explained.

In addition to the Discovering Justice Mural, the jury room will also debut other upgrades to its space, including new tables, chairs and charging stations purchased through a grant from the Akron Bar Association.
Along with the aforementioned additions, the Court will also showcase art created by local high school students who won the Court’s art contest themed “The Importance of Jury Duty.” The artwork of the top three award winners has been framed and hung in the Jury room.

“I am very happy to present this artwork to our community. The work encapsulates many of the ideas presented by students throughout the Discovering Justice project. Our court wants to educate our citizens so that they understand the importance of jury duty. When called, we want our Summit County residents to proudly answer the call. When they walk into the jury assembly room, they will be greeted by a beautiful mural that celebrates our country’s foundational principles of liberty and justice for all.” McCarty stated.
