Summit County, Ohio - Administrative Judge Alison McCarty announced today that the Summit County Common Pleas General Division Judges will be participating in the Fugitive Safe Surrender event scheduled for August 7-10, 2024 at the House of the Lord, 1650 Diagonal Road in Akron.
For the thousands of fugitives across America who have no history of violence, Fugitive Safe Surrender offers a unique opportunity to take their first and most crucial step toward community re-entry. The goals of FSS are to reduce the risk to law enforcement officers who pursue fugitives, to the neighborhoods in which they hide, and to the fugitives themselves, and to clear up judicial dockets and paperwork, allowing courts to more efficiently serve the community.
“We are committed to this program and will staff the event with judges from our court. Working in conjunction with our community partners, we hope to address many outstanding warrants and help people regain their lives and resolve their outstanding criminal justice issues,” McCarty said. Assistant county prosecutors and defense counsel will also be present.
Community partners working in support of this event include County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Summit County Sheriff’s and Prosecutor’s offices, Akron Bar Association, Summit County Clerk of Courts, Akron Municipal Court, Oriana House, Akron Police Department, and many others.
Judge Jennifer Towell is coordinating the event on behalf of the general division judges. For more information about the event, please contact her at 330 643-2228, or at asymons@cpcourt.summitoh.net
