The Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association (OCPJA) honored Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Joy Malek Oldfield with the President’s Award of Excellence at last week’s OCPJA Annual Conference in Columbus.

After five years of judicial service in Akron Municipal Court, Judge Oldfield joined the Summit County Common Pleas bench in 2016. She serves as Presiding Judge of the Turning Point Program, Summit County’s Felony Drug Court. Judge Oldfield has been an OCPJA Board of Trustees member since 2018 and serves as the Association’s Third Vice-President and Education Chair.

“Judge Oldfield is most deserving of the President’s Award for the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association due to her exceptional contributions and leadership over the past year in chairing our education committee and developing a plan for our future educational programming. Her passion for education and our association distinguishes her as an invaluable contributor to our organization. Additionally, she drafted the amendment to the OCPJA code of regulations which was adopted by the entire body and provides our path forward to excellence in our judicial continuing legal education as required by the Ohio Supreme Court. She is a frequent presenter at our conferences contributing hours of preparation and engaging content for our membership,” said OCPJA President Judge Taryn Heath.

The OCPJA represents the general division judges of Ohio’s 88 common pleas courts. It strives to improve and enhance the administration of justice through the exchange of thought and experience across the courts of Ohio.

“I’m humbled to receive this award and contribute to this Association,” stated Judge Oldfield. “I care very much about the quality of the education at our conferences because it keeps our judiciary up to date on practical, legal, and ethical information we need to serve the public. It’s rewarding to play a part in furthering that mission.”
