Summit County, Ohio: Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge Tammy O’Brien was appointed by Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy to serve as a member of the Board of Bar Examiners.
In this role, Judge O’Brien will be one of 18 attorneys and judges responsible for developing, administering, and grading the Ohio bar examinations, which are administered in February and July of each year.
O’Brien previously served as a Reader/Grader of the bar exam for 21 years, but will now serve as a Bar Examiner for a five-year term beginning November 1, 2023 and ending October 31, 2028. Reader/Graders are experienced licensed attorneys who assist the Board of Bar Examiners with grading exams.
“Teaching is part of my background and has been a life-long passion. Serving as a Reader/Grader from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2006 to 2023, helped to not only fulfill this passion, but provided me the opportunity to give much-needed assistance to the Board, to which I have now been appointed,” said O’Brien.
In Judge O’Brien’s appointment letter from The Supreme Court of Ohio, dated November 15, 2023, Chief Justice Kennedy wrote “The Justices of the Court appreciate your commitment to serve your profession and the people of Ohio as a member of the Board of Bar Examiners.”
Judge O’Brien was appointed to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas in 2011, elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2014 and 2020. She served as the Court’s Administrative Judge in 2014 and 2015, and currently presides over one of the Court’s specialized Re-Entry dockets.
Regarding this recent appointment to the Board of Bar Examiners, O’Brien said “I am honored to be a part of this team and am looking forward with great excitement to continuing my work in this area in a more official capacity.”
