Background: In 2013, the Summit County Juvenile Court, in collaboration with Summit County Children Services (SCCS) launched a Family Drug Court named the Family Reunification through Recovery Court (FRRC). The FFRC aims to serve the parents of a child whom SCCS has sought some level of custody or protective supervision due, at least in part, to substance misuse by a parent. The mission of the program is to quickly, creatively and effectively partner with Court involved families to address substance misuse and other family challenges to create a healthy, stable home environment that allows the family to permanently reunify.
From Noon – 12:40 pm: Magistrate Lynd-Robinson & Magistrate Lee Ann Schaffer will present an overview of the FRRC including program eligibility, individual recovery plans, and how participants progress through the program phases. Like many specialized court dockets, participant progress is monitored by a treatment team/committee. From 12:40 pm – 1 pm: Members of the FRRC’s treatment committee will participate in panel discussion about how the docket functions and the roles of different team/committee members. The panelists include: Summit County Prosecutor, Chelsea Bolin, CASA Program Attorney Holly Farah, FRRC Counsel, Attorney Michele Tomer, and Defense Attorney Alan Medvick. This program will be especially relevant to defense attorneys who practice in the Summit County Juvenile Court and want to be able to provide their clients with information about the FRRC to help them discern the advantages and challenges of program participation.
