PLEASE NOTE: The Criminal Justice Advisory Board has been tasked with creating a committee which will oversee the Summit County Criminal Indigent List, and the committee will also determine which CLE seminars qualify as meeting the requirements to satisfy inclusion on the list for practitioners.
The list of seminars below, provided by the Akron Bar Association, have been used in the past to satisfy the previous requirements. The Application Review Committee, once established, will determine what Continuing Legal Education Seminars (including Akron Bar and other CLE providers) meet the OAC statutory requirements.

ANNUAL J. DEAN CARRO RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN CRIMINAL LAW PRACTICE
Per current Akron Municipal Court Local Rule 41, this annual seminar is highly recommended that all attorneys to join or remain on the Summit County Criminal Indigent Appointment List.

ABCs OF A JURY TRIAL

APPELLATE SEMINARS:
BASIC CRIMINAL APPELLATE LAW PRACTICE & PROCEDURES
In addition to OAC 120-1-10 statutory requirements, this seminar is a HIGHLY recommended for first time criminal appellate appointments in Summit County. First-time Appellate Attorneys highly encouraged also attend the Annual J. Dean Carro Criminal Law Update and shadow an attorney on a criminal appeal case with the Ninth District Court of Appeals. This includes: reading all of the briefs filed in the shadowed lawyer’s case; discussion with the shadowed lawyer about the assignments of error the shadowed lawyer presented, particularly as to the strategy behind the shadowed lawyer’s selection of those assignments of error; and attendance at the oral argument of the case.

ADVANCED ISSUES IN CRIMINAL APPELLATE LAW PRACTICE
In addition to OAC 120-1-10 statutory requirements, ALL attorneys on the Appellate Appointment List regardless of years of practice are highly encouraged to attend this seminar and the Annual J. Dean Carro Recent Developments in Criminal Law Practice. Attorneys who are certified for Appellate Specialization by the Ohio State Bar Association or another organization that is approved by the Ohio Supreme Court and who have handled at least one criminal appeal to the Ninth District within the previous three years will be exempt from the Appellate CLE requirement but must take the Annual Criminal Law Update.
