Speaker Bio

Laura L. Drake, J.D., Pro Bono and Referral Panel Director, Pro Seniors
Laura Drake is the as the Pro Bono and Referral Panel Director for Pro Seniors. She recruits attorneys to be on the Pro Seniors Lawyer Referral Panel for residents of Ohio over the age of 60. Pro Seniors offers a legal hotline for residents over the age of 60, with no income restrictions. As part of that service, approximately one third of calls are referred to outside attorneys through the Lawyer Referral Panel, the majority of these referrals are full fee referrals. Laura Drake is also known as Professor Drake and is an Assistant Professor of Instruction at the Ohio University College of Business where she teaches Business Law, Commercial Law, and Employment/Human Resources law courses.
Ms. Drake received her Bachelor of Arts in French and Anthropology from Indiana University, Bloomington, and her Premier Degré from the Institute International d'Etudes Françaises in Strasbourg France where she remained for three years working at the Council of Europe in the Directorate of Legal Affairs and the Directorate of Human Rights before returning to the United States to attend Law School at the University of Minnesota. While attending law school, Laura was an extern to the Honorable Judge Gregory F. Kishel, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, District of Minnesota. Upon graduation, Laura relocated to Ohio.
Laura is licensed to practice law in four states, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Kentucky. Originally working in consumer litigation, she opened her own law firm in 2009 where she represented families with children with disabilities in their estate planning and related legal needs. She volunteers on several local and state board of directors for various nonprofit educational and philanthropic organizations and has been recognized for her leadership in these organizations. She began teaching business law and paralegal courses at a community college in 2009, where she was awarded as teacher of the year in 2019, which was also the year she started teaching at Ohio University.
Supreme Court of Ohio, Commission on CLE
Credit has been approved with the Supreme Court of Ohio, Commission on CLE for 1.00 General credit. Akron Bar Association is an approved CLE provider with the Ohio Supreme Court.
