Become A Notary Public
Step 1: THE APPLICATION PROCESS
To become a Notary Public, applicants must pass a test. A New Notary Packet, which includes an application and study guide, may be purchased for $5.00 via the following ways:
Step 2: Seminar & TESTING
Notary Public tests are conducted every Monday. A study course is offered twice a month in order to improve the passing rate of the test. The test is comprised of 20 true/false and multiple choice questions. Click here to view available test & seminar dates, or call the Akron Bar office at (330) 253-5007.
Upon determining which date you will attend the seminar and/or test:
Register online at the bottom of this page using a debit or credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover)Click here to print out a registration form and mail it with a checkRegister at the Akron Bar Association office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Payments must be received five days prior to the seminar or test.
Step 3: Order Notary Supplies
Upon passing the Notary Public exam, you may order supplies from the Akron Bar Association online or by completing this form and sending payment by check. Checks should be made payable to the Akron Bar Association.
Step 4: NOTARY RENEWAL PROCESS
Notary Commissions expire every five years. At least six weeks prior to the expiration of your notary license, contact the Akron Bar Association online by clicking here, or call 330-253-5007 to request a Notary Commission Renewal Packet and to pay the $70 Renewal Fee. The renewal process usually takes six to eight weeks from the time the renewal form is received by the Akron Bar Association.
Important Renewal Reminders:
• You will not be able to notarize if your license is expired;
• Notary Publics may renew their license up to one year past the expiration date without having to take the test again.
