Timothy Scanlon - 2004 Professionalism Award

Timothy F. Scanlon is the 2004 recipient of the Akron Bar Association Professionalism Award. Tim was one of five children born to Chick and Betty Scanlon. He graduated from St. Vincent’s High School in 1955, and received his undergraduate degree in 1959 from the College of the Holy Cross, located in Worcester, Massachusetts. A few weeks after finishing college, Tim enrolled in law school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, attending school on a year-round basis and graduating in the summer of 1961.
Tim began his law career in 1961 with the firm of Buckingham, Doolittle and Burroughs, where he remained for almost 15 years. He left that firm to start his own law practice, which eventually led to the formation of Scanlon and Gearinger, Co., L.P.A. in 1979.
During his career, Tim served on many committees within the Akron Bar Association, as well as serving as President-Elect and President in 1979-1980 and 1980-1981, respectively. Tim was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Western Reserve Girl Scouts Council and the Summit County Trial Lawyers Association. For almost 20 years, Tim was on the Board of Directors for the North Akron Savings Bank. This is the same seat previously held by his father, Chic, and his grandfather, Daniel Scanlon.
Tim and his wife, Mary, currently reside in Naples, Florida and have 6 children: Maura, Tracy, Paula, Greg, Cory, and John. They currently have 15 grandchildren with the next grandchild due in February 2005. With their children located in Milwaukee, Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas and Akron, they are able to incorporate family visits and golf with their cross-country travels.
